an International Open Call for Artists, Film and Video makers, Creatives,
Clitorians, Peniles, Profits and Collectors from all over the world
R&Pcult presents "YaYaYa(2024)", an original and contemporary initiative created to help accelerate the end of female genital mutilation - FGM - through Art.
Is Art capable of awakening the sensitivity for the end of the barbarisms we are still facing in the adulthood of the 21st century?
In this open call, we are inviting artists, film and video makers artists and creatives from all over the world to send their work that address the topic of female genital mutilation.
We want to research and exhibit how contemporary art has been reflecting this humanitarian emergency, as well as promote collaboration and support from everyone in favor of - #EndFGM #YouthEndFGM - the end of Feminine Genital Mutilation worldwide, accelerating The United Nations goal to end FGM by 2030.
Every human deserves protection, pleasure, Art, and action. This is an opportunity to act.
WHO?
This initiative is open to all Artists, Film and Video Makers and Creatives - either Individuals or Collectives, to all Clitorians, all Peniles, all Profits and all Collectors, from all over the world and for every year until the end of Female Genital Mutilation. The UN aims to #EndFGMby2030.

-
$1.000 USD Prize - to be collected either in the form of cash - or - in the form of a donation to The UN on the winner's behalf - or - as payment towards a 30 day Artistic Residence in 2024 in Venice - Italy, fully funded by us.

Final words
We fear. But, the YAYAYA project is confronting the silence around one of the most harrowing examples of gender-based violence - female genital mutilation. Google, Facebook, Instagram, Internet, YOU, support us, don't try to stop us. We need you.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons, and is recognized internationally as a violation of human rights, the health and integrity of girls and women.
It is estimated that more than 200 million girls and women alive today have experienced this form of violence. While the practice is condemned by international human rights organizations, social and cultural pressures keep FGM a common practice for women around the globe.
FGM can have devastating consequences for women and girls who endure it, including complications during childbirth, infertility, infections, loss of sexual pleasure and even death. Anti-FGM advocates argue that it has no religious or cultural significance, but rather serves solely to exert power over a woman’s body and sexuality.
the living pain, this is how it is to carry pain during an existence as a human born in those societies
Ifrah Ahmed’s first feeling on the day she suffered female genital mutilation was anxiety. Seeing the adults party, she didn’t know exactly what to expect, but she knew it was something important, that it was going to change her life. In the place of fear, Ifrah realized that what was happening in that place was nothing cool. It was brutal and inevitable. With her hands and legs immobilized, she had her vagina first analyzed, then cut, without consent or anesthesia. The cold, dry cut made Ifrah cry. The girl couldn’t take it anymore, but it wasn’t over yet. With needle and thread, they sewed the remaining skin, making the vagina, instead of the small and large lips, become a huge scar, closed from end to end, interrupted only by a small hole left to come out urine. With her legs tied, she was returned to her parents and remained so for weeks, lying on the floor, suffering in silence, waiting for a healing that never came. In addition to the marks it carries on the body (from the pee that comes out slowly to unbearable pain in the menstrual period). When she remembers that day, Ifrah shivers, her voice breaks, her light face disappears and she becomes economical in the words: “It hurts unbearably. Just remembering, it still hurts me”,

International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. We also mark other UN observances.
-
In 2020 alone, there are 4.1 million girls around the world are at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation.
-
According to UNFPA, the cost of preventing female genital mutilation is $95 per girl today.
-
30 countries where female genital mutilation is prevalent are experiencing high population growth, with at least 30 per cent of girls undergoing female population under the age of 15.
-
Young people aged 15 to 19 in countries where female genital mutilation is prevalent are less supportive of continuing the practice than are adults aged 45 to 49.
-
In many countries where female genital mutilation is prevalent, young girls have a dramatically increased chance of growing up without the risk of undergoing this harmful practice compared to their mothers and grandmothers.
